Last Will
Or: what remains?
Visiting TiB in January!
“Do I need a house? My own house? Am I not caring if I don't pass on anything material? Is ownership a right or a duty? Why can't this idea die?”
In TESTAMENT. Or: what remains? performer Barbara Gassner takes up her inheritance. The sale of her parents' house marks the disappearance of a place that was her home. In a long process, Gassner decides what to do with her mother's belongings: much is given away, let go—and some is taken along. Placed at home, these things seem almost foreign, yet they speak to us, tell stories, remind us, and seek familiarity in the new.
Within the framework of a fictional album presentation, the question of the emotional and material value of possessions is negotiated. The objects she has taken with her become songs that tell of a different life.
TIP: On January 21, 2026, Karin Scaria-Braunstein will moderate a panel discussion with experts from hospice, ethics, and nursing following the presentation.
She will speak with Birgit Winkler, Hospice Association Styria; Magdalena Demuth, MSc, general practitioner, Master of Science in Palliative Care; Mag. Dr. Johann Platzer, university lecturer in ethics, Institute for Moral Theology, University of Graz; and Andrea Kapun, widow for ten years.
