Schallfeld Ensemble

The Schallfeld Ensemble continues its “Reflections” season this fall with the first of three concerts: On Wednesday, October 28, at 8:00 p.m., the ensemble will make its debut at TiB – Theater im Bahnhof.

The program centers on the world premiere of *Wasteland – fragile, almost a presence*, the second work from Maurizio Azzan’s *Wasteland* cycle (Stair Residence 2026) for six spatially distributed instruments and electronics. In this new chapter of the cycle, multichannel live electronics expand and blend the artificial sound of several “waste instruments” —amplified everyday objects—with the ensemble, thereby creating a dialogue between two distinct sonic dimensions: the intimate, acoustic space of the central string trio (violin, cello, and double bass, connected by copper cables) and the outer space formed by the remaining instruments and sound objects.
This is followed by three purely acoustic works for mixed quartet: *Klein Fountain* by Reuben Jelleyman (Stair 2026), *musica spolia* by the American composer Katherine Balch, and a short “classic” by Tristan Murail: *Feuilles à travers les cloches*—a reversal of Debussy’s famous *Prélude*.
An evening of very diverse music that nonetheless vividly reflects and evokes different conceptions of landscape and nature.
